Liza Barley

Liza Barley is a Suzuki violin teacher who is curious about making music with everyone, everywhere. She has taught, performed, and led workshops all over the world and regularly produces new work in collaboration with artists of different disciplines. Liza grew up as a violin student of Michele Higa George and holds a BM in Violin Performance from Vanderbilt University and an MM in Music Leadership (Collaborative Composition) from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. She has a passion for leading processes that charge communities to think creatively together, amplify their voices, and make new work that is authentic. She lives in Pittsburgh, PA with her husband and two children.

Annalise Ohse

Annalise Ohse currently lives in Nashville, TN where she serves as the string instructor for Harding Academy. She also teaches with the Franklin Suzuki Academyin Franklin, TN and maintains her own private studio, Ohse Violin Studio, in East Nashville. Ms. Ohse holds degrees in violin performance from the University of Texas at Austin and the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, where she completed her Suzuki teacher training. She also completed Suzuki teacher training at the School for Strings in New York City. Her primary teachers include Brian Lewis and Katie Lansdale. Her Suzuki mentors include Christie Felsing, Teri Einfeldt, and Allen Lieb. She has taught with the Hartt Suzuki Program in Hartford, Connecticut, WHIN Music Project in NYC, and the Austin Suzuki Music School in Austin, TX.

Michael McLean

Michael McLean, based in Los Angeles, is an internationally acclaimed composer, violinist, and educator. He teaches at the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts, where he specializes in violin, composition, and ensemble direction. With a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from Northwestern University and a certificate from USC's Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program, McLean is renowned for his orchestral, chamber, and film compositions.

As the founder and president of Oak Cliff Publishing, he boasts a catalogue of over 100 original compositions. Notably, his violin and viola concertos have been recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. McLean's expertise extends to the solo violin music of J.S. Bach, and he has been invited to lecture at prestigious conferences, including the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Delay-Starling Symposium for Teaching Excellence at The Juilliard School.

 

Dr. Rafael Videira

Dr. Rafael Videira has a diverse career as a teacher, performer, and conductor, with appearances in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany. He has taught violin and viola to students of all levels, leading them to success in competitions and prestigious schools. Currently residing in Albuquerque, NM, he serves as the String Pedagogy Faculty at the University of New Mexico, directs the orchestras at Manzano High School, and conducts two groups with the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program. He holds a Doctoral degree in viola performance and pedagogy from the University of Oregon and a Masters degree in performance from the University of New Mexico. In 2018, he received the Suzuki Association of the Americas Certificate of Achievement for his dedication to excellence in teaching within the Suzuki philosophy. Additionally, Dr. Videira was featured in the 2022 album by the American Viola Society, promoting music by underrepresented composers. 

Sarah Smale

Sarah attended the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where she received a BA with honors and continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her musical studies eventually took her to the Hartt School, where she studied with the Emerson String Quartet and obtained her MM in viola performance, also her Suzuki teacher training with Linda Fiore and Teri Einfeldt. Ms. Smale has won several awards, including the Birmingham Conservatoire string quartet scholarship and the Herbert Lumby Viola prize. She has worked with world-renowned artists such as Pierre Boulez, Yuri Bashmet, Nicholas Kramer, Steve Reich, Sir Simon Rattle and Valery Gergiev. Her experience includes numerous concerts and seminars with talented quartets and orchestras including: Takacs Quartet, European Chamber Opera, Russian National Ballet, and the Emerson Quartet, to which she was the assistant while in Hartford. Ms. Smale has also played with numerous choral societies as principal viola, recorded television work for the BBC, and recorded extensively for Radio Suisse. She also performs with L’Orchestre des Jardins Musicaux in Switzerland, where she is principal viola. Sarah is co-director of the White Mountain Suzuki Institute at Ogontz in New Hampshire and is in demand as a guest teacher at various workshops and summer institutes around the country.

Kim Barrett

Kim Barrett (violin) began studying the violin at age 12 with Linda Fiore in Pennsylvania. After graduating from West Chester University with Bachelor Degrees in Music Performance and Music Education she went to Matsumoto, Japan to study personally with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki and other master teachers. During her 3½ years in Japan, Kim assisted in translating for Dr. Suzuki and his writings and performed to demonstrate his teaching and method. After graduating from the Talent Education Institute, she returned to the United States in 1991 with her husband, Tim. Kim also holds a Masters Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Tennessee. Currently, she and her husband, Tim Barrett, teach and direct the violin program for the Academy of Strings in Johnson City, Tennessee.

 

Linda Fiore

Linda Fiore, co-director and violinist began violin lessons at age 5 with her mother Louise Wear, a Suzuki violin teacher. She earned a Bachelor of Music in violin performance at the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, CT and studied with violinist Raphael Bronstein in New York City. later, she studied with Dr. Suzuki at the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan for 18 months. Upon returning to the United States, she became the first teacher to teach Suzuki Violin Method for brain-injured and well children at the Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia. In 1983, she and her husband Domenick founded DaCore Talent Education in Glenmore, PA where, for 14 years, she taught violin and directed her own workshops. Having returned to PA, Linda and Domenick are currently continuing the development of DaCore Talent Education Academy and Fiore Performing strings in the Lehigh Valley area. They continue to co-direct the Ogontz Suzuki Institute, a Summer Institute in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Linda has done extensive orchestra, chamber orchestra, and chamber music performing over the course of her career with groups such as the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra and the Northeastern PA Philharmonic and the Pennsylvania Sinfonia. She trains teachers and students nationally and internationally and is the mother of two sons, Michael and Christopher.

Dr. Sara Bennett Wolfe

Dr. Sara Bennett Wolfe is the director of SBW Cello Studio in Norwalk and Trumbull CT. She holds music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Indiana University, Ithaca College, and Rutgers University. Collaborations include the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Thales Piano Trio, Mimesis Ensemble, Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, Binghamton Philharmonic, and positions as Principal Cellist with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and Opera in the Ozarks. In demand as a clinician, Sara has taught at the Belize, Ithaca, Intermountain, Westchester, and Ozark Suzuki Institutes, as well as high school and collegiate masterclasses and workshops. Sara’s primary teachers include Elizabeth Loughran, Jodi Beder, Emilio Colón, Elizabeth Simkin, Merry Peckham, and Jonathan Spitz; she has completed Suzuki teacher training with Pam Devenport, Melissa Kraut, Beth Cantrell, Heather Hadley, Alice Vierra, Mark Mutter, and Carrie Reuning-Hummel. Sara believes deeply in the power of music education to teach students about sensitivity, self-discipline, and perseverance. She enjoys being an integral part of her students’ “village,” and is thrilled to witness each small step as she and their parents guide them towards growing into Dr. Suzuki’s image of “noble human beings.” 

Domenick Fiore

Domenick Fiore, co-director, bassist, and orchestra director began studying the double bass with Wes Fisher in Reading, Pennsylvania, at the age of 14. He attended the Philadelphia Musical Academy where he studied with John Schaeffer, principal bass of the New York Philharmonic. After graduation, Domenick freelanced in the Philadelphia and New York City areas, performing in Broadway shows, The Brooklyn Orchestra, the National Ballet of Canada, and the Duke Ellington Pops Concerts. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from West Chester University and began teaching in the Ephrata, Pennsylvania School District. Domenick has been director of orchestras and chamber music at the Mid-Southeast Suzuki Institute, Snowmass Suzuki Institute, Chicago Institute, Calgary Suzuki Institute, Central Pennsylvania Institute, and the Hartford Suzuki Institute, as well as clinician at the Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Hickory (North Carolina) and Augusta (Georgia) Suzuki workshops. He and Linda currently live in the Lehigh Valley where they have established a Suzuki studio and freelance throughout the region.
